The Reds welcome Manchester City to Anfield safe in the knowledge that fourth place in the Barclays Premier League is already in the bag. Last week’s 2-2 draw at Birmingham City followed by Everton’s failure to beat Aston Villa means Rafael Benitez and his side are now guaranteed Champions League football next season and can enjoy a pressure-free final home match of the 2007/08 campaign. The Reds go into the clash looking to extend their winning run at Anfield to eight league matches and will be confident of picking up the three points against a Manchester City side who have struggled in the second-half of the season. Sven Goran Eriksson’s men are already certain of a top nine finish but have been in indifferent form of late, with two wins and three defeats from their last six matches. Liverpool travel to Stamford Bridge determined to break a hoodoo that stands in the way of our progress to the Champions League final in Moscow. The Reds have yet to score at the home of the Blues in eight games under Rafael Benitez and will need to change that statistic if they are to make it three European Cup finals in just four seasons under the Spaniard. John Arne Riise’s stoppage time own goal in the first-leg has given Chelsea a slight advantage going into the final part of our semi-final trilogy with Avram Grant’s men. But having already found the net at imposing grounds such as the Emirates and the San Siro already this year, the Reds will be confident they can cancel out the away goal and keep our dreams of a mission to Moscow very much alive. |

Liverpool will have to put their Champions League dream to one side as they bid to confirm fourth place in the Premier League at relegation threatened Birmingham City. The Reds moved eight points clear of closest rivals Everton courtesy of last Saturday’s 2-0 win at Fulham and one more victory for Rafael Benitez’s side would completely guarantee the fourth and final Champions League berth. Benitez has already admitted he will look to make full use of his squad in the last three league matches of the season and knows that even a point would make it almost impossible for the Toffees to overturn their advantage, given our superior goal difference. While the Reds will no doubt have one eye on the Champions League second leg at Chelsea, Birmingham go into the contest knowing that it is a must-win game if they are retain any hope of survival. Alex McLeish’s side were humiliated 5-1 at Aston Villa in the Birmingham derby last time out and are currently one point from safety. Yes, that’s right, after sensationally seeing off Arsenal in the last eight of the Champions League, Chelsea are once again the side standing in the way of what could be yet another European Cup final adventure for the Travelling Kop. Liverpool travel to Fulham hoping to extend their advantage in the race for fourth place ahead of Tuesday’s crucial Champions League semi-final with Chelsea. The Reds have been in fine form of late and will be aiming to complete the double over Roy Hodgson’s side after beating them 2-0 at Anfield earlier in the season (when Lawrie sanchez was at the helm). But Rafa and co will have to be wary as the Londoners need all the points they can get as they teeter on the brink of relegation to the Championship, and former Red Danny Murphy will have the added incentive of getting one over on his old club. If Liverpool can remain focused and play their normal game, they should pick up the points that will see them go some way to confirming fourth place and Champions League football at Anfield for next season. |

The Reds welcome Arsenal to Anfield hoping to secure a third Champions League semi-final berth in just four seasons. A 1-1 draw in the first-leg at the Emirates Stadium appears to have given Liverpool a slight advantage courtesy of Dirk Kuyt’s away goal, but one note of caution – Arsenal have scored in eight of their last nine visits to L4. Rafael Benitez may not have found the winning formula to secure Barclays Premier League glory, but he has the midas touch in Europe and with the famous 12th man in support, few would bet against another heroic Anfield display. The final part in the quick-fire trilogy of matches against the Gunners should see Rafa restore the likes of Steven Gerrard, Fernando Torres and Javier Mascherano to his line-up after they missed Saturday’s 1-1 league draw. Liverpool travel to London for what is only our second ever league visit to the Emirates Stadium. Rafa and co have had mixed fortunes against the Gunners in recent years and our first visit to their new ground ended in disappointment, as the hosts ran out comfortable 3-0 winners. There have also been some disappointments at home in the knockout competitions as a 3-1 reversal in the FA Cup was followed by an embarrassing 6-3 thrashing in the Carling Cup days later. However, a 4-1 win at Anfield last season and a solid performance in a 1-1 draw earlier in the this campaign prove that we are more than capable of giving the Gunners a match. A defeat for Arsenal would no doubt hand an advantage to Manchester United in the title race, and while this will no doubt chagrin many a reds fans, three points would also go some way to ensuring Champions League football will be played in the red half of Merseyside again next season. |

Liverpool travel to the Emirates hoping to draw first blood ahead of what is a mammoth three match showdown in just six days against the Gunners. It won’t be the first time Rafael Benitez’s men have faced Arsenal in back-to back matches, having suffered both FA Cup and Carling Cup defeats within days of each other last season, and he will be hoping it is Liverpool’s turn to take the spoils when they go head-to-head in the Champions League Quarter-finals and the Premier League.
